Notifications
This guide covers everything you need to know about notifications in Vitae: where to find them, how to clear them, and how to turn specific alerts on or off. There is no pop-out bell in the top bar — all notifications live on a dedicated page you reach from the sidebar.
How do I open my notifications?
Recruiter / agency app
- In the left sidebar, look for the Notifications item (bell icon) under the Account section.
- Click it to open the full Notifications page, which lists every alert in a table with columns for Title, Message, Category, Status, and Date.
Client portal
- In the client portal sidebar, click Notifications (bell icon).
- The page opens with the heading “Updates from your recruiting team and anything that needs your attention.”
How do I mark a notification as read?
One at a time (recruiter app)
- Open Notifications from the sidebar.
- Find the notification in the table. Its Status column shows Unread.
- Click the three-dot actions menu at the end of the row and select Mark as Read.
- A “Notification marked as read” confirmation appears and the status changes to Read.
Tip: You can also just click the row. Clicking an unread row marks it as read automatically and, if the notification contains a link, takes you straight to the relevant page.
All at once (recruiter app)
- On the Notifications page, click the Mark All as Read button in the top-right corner of the table.
- A “All notifications marked as read” confirmation appears and all unread items update to Read.
One at a time (client portal)
- Open Notifications from the client portal sidebar.
- Unread items show a Mark as read button inline. Click it to clear the alert.
- When nothing is left unread you will see “You’re all caught up” with the note “Nothing new since you last looked. Nice.”
All at once (client portal)
- Click Mark all as read in the top-right corner of the notifications page.
- The button is greyed out when there is nothing left to clear.
How do I archive a notification?
- Open Notifications from the sidebar (recruiter app).
- Click the three-dot actions menu on any row that is not already archived.
- Select Archive. A “Notification archived” confirmation appears and the status changes to Archived.
How do I filter notifications by status?
Recruiter app
- On the Notifications page, find the Status filter above the table.
- Click the dropdown and choose Unread, Read, or Archived to narrow the list.
- Clear the filter to see all notifications again.
Client portal
- On the client portal Notifications page, use the tabs just below the heading.
- Click all to see every notification, or unread to see only those you have not yet read. Each tab shows a count badge so you can see how many are waiting.
How do I open a linked notification?
Some notifications point to a specific page — for example, a new application or a scheduled interview.
- Recruiter app: Click the three-dot actions menu and select Open Link. This option only appears when the notification has a destination attached.
- Client portal: Click the Open link that appears inline on the notification item.
How do I change which notifications I receive?
-
Click your avatar in the top-right corner and select Account settings.
-
In the settings sidebar, scroll to the Account section and click Notifications (bell icon). This takes you to the notification preferences page.
-
You will see three rows of preferences:
Event What it covers Application received When we receive an application you submit Interview scheduled When you pick an interview time Interview submitted When you submit a video interview -
Each row has two toggles:
- Email — send an email alert for this event.
- In-app — show an in-app notification for this event.
-
Flip any toggle on or off. Changes are saved automatically.
Tip: If the page shows “Failed to load notification preferences. Refresh to try again.” just reload the page and your preferences will load correctly.
How do I turn the notification sound on or off?
- Go to Account settings and open the Appearance page from the settings sidebar.
- Scroll to the Notifications section (“Control whether unread realtime notifications play a sound.”).
- Click Sound on to play a short tone for new alerts, or Sound off to keep things silent. Only one option can be active at a time.
